ILU

Now that my Valentines have received their treats, I can safely post them on the Internet without ruining any surprises! Valentine’s 2009 was the year of embroidery – specifically cross stitch.
Katie’s Valentine

Hanni’s Valentine. I have been thinking about her a lot lately.

And the pièce de résistance: Keith’s Valentine. Inspired by this Quaker design sampler – I did a lot of squinting to figure it out. I am going to complete the two star designs (individually) on the bottom right and frame the three pieces vertically.

To start your own embroidery project, you will need:
Evenweave (Aida 14 stitch/inch is a good fabric to start on)
Embroidery hoop
Size 24 tapestry needle
Embroidery floss
Scissors
14 squares/inch graph paper

Sketch your design on the graph paper in colored pencil – each square will be an X.
Then refer to this guide to begin!

Here are the rest of my paper crafts:

Mom’s Valentine. I got the Eiffel Tower print from a collage kit at Guild Art Supply.

Kayla’s Valentine, a double heart spiral pop-up card!

And finally…

My Valentine: a box of Heavenly Chocolates. Keith also made me a special dinner: pork loin with homemade pear BBQ sauce (which Luna sampled off the table – she nearly singed herself on a lit candle), wild mushroom couscous, and asparagus. We also spent quality time cleaning the apartment to a Dead Milkmen record.

What holiday is next? Oh – stay tuned for an Irish St. Patrick’s Day supper with Emily O’Brennan! I’ll be publishing the very best Irish soda bread family recipe.
